Andy Reid reveals how he got convinced to participate in Chiefs’ ESPN miniseries debuting next week

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KCTV) - A new documentary miniseries on the Kansas City Chiefs history and last year’s threepeat pursuit is set to debut on ESPN next week.

So how did head coach Andy Reid and his focused operation get roped into allowing a docuseries to be in the building every day in 2024?

“Our owner asked me to do it,” Reid said with a couple laughs. “So, it’s not really my deal, but he’s my boss so I jumped in on it. And if I’m going in, I’m going in. I normally go all in.”

The series will “explore the franchise’s indelible and distinctive place in the NFL’s landscape and ”chronicle the team’s extraordinary 2024 season."

While that season ended in a painful Super Bowl loss, quarterback Patrick Mahomes said he still believes the documentary was neat to see and informative even with all the Chiefs history he already knew.

“It’s a great documentary,” Mahomes said. “Obviously, the season is part of it, but you get to see the history of the Kansas City Chiefs. I saw stuff that I didn’t even know and I thought I knew everything about the Kansas City Chiefs.

“It’s cool to see how that’s done because I’ve loved those documentaries my whole life and to see how the bread is buttered. It was really cool.”

Mahomes joked with some editorial control, he suggested here and there excluding some codewords so that he could continue using them at the line of scrimmage again this season.

Reid was also complimentary of the crew.

“I thought their people handled it well,” Reid said. “I thought they did a good job of not being a distraction. I worry about that and it’s one reason I don’t like doing those things, but I thought they actually really handled themselves well.

“My hat goes off to them for handling it that way.”
