Despite emerging as an ominous force in the summer transfer window, Liverpool have seemingly lost the bragging rights in front of Premier League rivals Chelsea on one account. Jorrel Hato, who was rumoured to be a target of the Reds, reported by Express, has signed a seven-year deal worth an initial £38.5m with the Blues.
The rumblings of Hato to Liverpool made waves when the ex-Ajax defender turned up at Anfield in January and witnessed Liverpool trounce Ipswich 4-1. As reported by Express, he was invited by former team-mate Ryan Gravenberch, who is a Liverpool midfielder.

Chelsea get the upper hand over Liverpool again
Having experienced the electrifying atmosphere of Anfield, Hato was expected to return to Merseyside on a permanent basis, especially when the club had made the space by offloading Jarrel Quansah. However, the 19-year-old centreback did make a move to the Premier League but picked Stamford Bridge as his new base.
While it may seem unlikely, this is not the first time a player has picked Chelsea over Liverpool. Both clubs were at odds with each other over signing different players last season as well, and each time, whether it was with Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo or Romeo Lavia, it was Chelsea who got the better of the Reds. Signing Hato could be considered the latest occasion when Chelsea had the last laugh over Liverpool.
More from Football
While Hato may have decided to move to London, it does not concern Liverpool, who is enjoying an unbelievable summer transfer window. The club has acquired Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez and have splurged over £200 million. Moreover, they are not yet settled and want to rope in Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. As per the latest report made by English media, Liverpool’s £110 million bid has been rejected by the Magpies, putting the limelight on FSG and Arne Slot again to contemplate and potentially come back with an improved offer.
