Andre Onana fitness latest, when Man Utd goalkeeper is targeting return to action

Manchester United will complete pre-season without their first-choice goalkeeper, but Andre Onana is optimistic about returning for the new campaign.

It’s been a positive pre-season for Manchester United, who are unbeaten in their four friendly matches heading into Saturday’s clash against Fiorentina.

Ruben Amorim has welcomed three new signings to the squad, including Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

United are now hopeful of adding another attacker to the squad after making progress on a deal to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

The only setback for United this summer is that players like Andre Onana and Joshua Zirkzee missed pre-season due to injuries.

It’s a setback for the players, too, although they were both on tour for team-building purposes.

Man Utd get Andre Onana injury boost

There was always a chance Onana would feature in the final pre-season game ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Although, that no longer appears to be the case with the Cameroon international set to miss the entirety of pre-season.

Onana took part in light training sessions at Carrington over the past week, and the Manchester Evening News claims he is targeting a return from his hamstring injury for the opening game of the season against Arsenal next Sunday.

The report adds that Onana is not expected to play against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on Saturday, but the 29-year-old is confident he will return in the season opener versus Arsenal.

Onana also took part in non-contact sessions while in the United States, as Amorim was keen for him to avoid the risk of aggravating his injury.

Over 60,000 tickets sold for United v Fiorentina

United announced this morning that 60,000 tickets have already been sold for the friendly against Fiorentina.

The game has been marked as David de Gea‘s homecoming, and it means United fans will be able to give their former goalkeeper a proper send-off at Old Trafford.

Amorim’s squad has been preparing for the game at Carrington this week, after returning from the US tour.

Fans in attendance will get another glimpse of new signings Cunha and Mbeumo as we get closer to the season opener.
