Forward is now ‘ready’ to travel to Newcastle in £35m deal - Keith Downie

Sky Sports News reporter Keith Downie has provided a positive update on Newcastle United’s pursuit of Brentford forward Yoane Wissa.

The summer transfer window has been full of ups and downs for the Magpies. When it looked like a deal was about to be done, another club has stolen in and taken the player from Eddie Howe’s clutches.

However, that does not appear to be the case for Brentford ace Yoane Wissa, who has made it clear that Newcastle United are the club he wants to join this summer.

Newcastle need a new striker this summer, with Alexander Isak’s future on Tyneside looking bleak and Callum Wilson departing after five years.

Wissa is likely to be a replacement for Wilson, rather than Isak, but the forward will be a great utility player in what will be a very busy 2025/26 campaign. With Wissa desperate to join Newcastle, Keith Downie has provided a promising update on the 28-year-old, which suggests a deal will be done soon.

Yoane Wissa’s representatives are travelling to the UK for Newcastle United talks

Brentford are in talks to sign Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara, who is being lined up as the Bees’ replacement for Wissa should he leave. The groundwork has been put in place for the deal to happen, so it could just be a matter of time before it is done.

Now, Sky Sports correspondent Keith Downie has confirmed that Newcastle are now pushing to get a deal for Wissa over the line ahead of the new season.

Downie has stated on the social media platform X that the Magpies are hoping that a deal, believed to be in the region of £35million, can be struck quickly. Wissa’s representatives are travelling to the UK today in the hope of getting a deal over the line.

From Wissa’s perspective, he has already made it clear that Newcastle should be his next club and is ready to travel to the North East once the deal gets the green light.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a brilliant 2024/25 campaign with Brentford, scoring 19 goals in the Premier League.

Newcastle United’s transfer plan if they complete Yoane Wissa move

The deal is not complete yet, but all signs are now pointing to a fee being agreed and Wissa becoming a Newcastle player this summer. Howe will undoubtedly be pleased that he has been able to replace Wilson with a versatile forward currently playing at the top of his game, especially with Champions League football on the horizon.

While Wissa will be a big move for Newcastle, they are not planning on slowing down.

Newcastle are hoping to sign a quality striker with the feeling that Isak will leave the club this summer. Liverpool are interested in the 25-year-old but are yet to make an offer which is deemed worthy of accepting.

Howe also wants a new central midfielder at Newcastle following an injury to Joe Willock. Coventry City’s Jack Rudoni has been named as an option, and the club are keeping tabs but Newcastle are yet to make a move for the Championship star.

Elsewhere, Newcastle want to sign a centre-back. Reports recently linked AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw with a move, but it remains to be seen whether the Magpies will be able to convince the Serie A side to sell him.
