Bilal El Khannouss to Leeds United transfer latest as manager reveals 'conversations'

New Leicester City manager Marti Cifuentes has admitted that there has been ‘conversations’ and ‘interest’ in some of his players, amid Leeds United’s interest in Bilal El Khannouss.

The Moroccan midfielder was one of the standout players for the Foxes last season in what was a disappointing season that ended in relegation. It’s thought that Leicester want around £30 million if they are to sell this summer.

Leeds have been linked with an intertest in the 21-year-old, and have held talks with Leicester over a possible deal. El Khannouss joined Leicester from Genk last summer and has three years remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium.

Despite the links with Leeds last week, El Khannouss was named in the starting lineup for Leicester’s final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina last weekend and played 83 minutes of the game.

Leicester kick off their Championship season on Sunday when they take on Sheffield Wednesday at home. Leeds fans will be keeping a close eye on El Khannouss’ involvement in the match.

Ahead of that game, Foxes’ boss Cifuentes, held his first pre-match press conference since taking the role just a few weeks ago. Following the departure of midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and the expected exit of goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, he was asked if he expects anymore outgoings, to which he gave an honest response.

“There are conversations around some players and there is interest around them,” he said. “But that’s the reality for all clubs around the country.”

El Khannouss played 36 games in all competitions for Leicester last season, scoring three times and providing five assists.
