The Boston Celtics are keeping their championship-winning coach in place.
Joe Mazzulla has agreed to a multi-year extension with the team, according to a statement released Thursday.
Specific terms of the deal were not made public, but the move locks in one of the NBA’s youngest and most successful head coaches heading into the 2025-26 season.
“This is truly a blessing,” Mazzulla said in a statement. “I would not be here without my faith, my wife and my children. We are thankful for the partnership with our ownership groups, Brad’s mentorship and the support of our staff.”
Mazzulla, a Rhode Island native, became the 19th head coach in franchise history when he officially took the reins in February 2023.

In just over two seasons, he has helped lead Boston to a 182-64 record and brought home Banner 18 after a dominant playoff run in 2024. The Celtics went 16-3 in the postseason and Mazzulla became the youngest coach to win an NBA title since Bill Russell in 1969.
“We are very excited that Joe has agreed to extend with the Celtics,” said President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens, according to the team. “He understands the job and has a passion for the Celtics that is only rivaled by our most die-hard fans.”
