Barcelona stars Yamal and Lewandowski punished by UEFA for ‘violating’ doping rules

Barcelona forwards Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal have both been sanctioned by UEFA for breaching doping regulations, according to a new report. The attackers are deemed to have broken the rules in their last European contest, which would've been the dramatic 4-3 defeat to Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-final.

Manager Hansi Flick and assistant Marcus Sorg have also been hit with a separate sanction which will see them banned for Barca's next European contest, but despite the players' wrongdoing, they are not set to be suspended.

It is being claimed by Marca that UEFA has determined that both players failed to follow the instructions given by the Anti-Doping Control Officer (Article 21.8) and did not report directly to the Control Station without delay (Article 21.10(a)), as required by the regulations.

As a result, both players are set to be hit with a €5,000 fine each, but due to the fact that they did not submit a tainted sample, they will not miss any of Barcelona's European action next season.

As for manager Flick and assistant Sorg, they have each been found in breach of general principles of conduct (Art. 11(1) DR) and violate the basic standards of decent conduct (Art. 11:2)(b) DR). This is likely as a result of the German's criticism of the refereeing performance during the second leg of their Champions League contest in the San Siro.

The coaching duo have been hit with a far more severe punishment, with both being slapped with a €20,000 fine and also a one-match ban which will see them miss Los Cules' first Champions League game of the 2025/26 season.

The club as a whole have also received a fine of €5,250 for the throwing of objects during the game, while also being struck with a further fine of €2,500 for the use of fireworks in the stands.
