West Ham United have given their summer a huge boost in recent weeks with some promising displays in the Premier League’s Summer Series.

It has not been an easy few months for Graham Potter’s side in the transfer market, but a pair of wins in their last two outings has lifted the mood somewhat in E20.

West Ham have seen off both Bournemouth and Everton in their last two pre-season friendlies, and they will wrap up their summer preparation on Saturday, when Lille visit the London Stadium.

There is now cause for optimism once again as the new season approaches on the horizon, but it would be no surprise to see their fans now frustrated after a call from Stan Collymore.

West Ham fans right to be angry as Collymore predicts 16th place finish

El Hadji Malick Diouf has given West Ham fans plenty of reasons to be positive with his recent performances, while even Niclas Fullkrug seems to be sharp ahead of the return to competitive action.

The Hammers looked like an effective unit in their victory over Bournemouth, and that is not a result that can be sniffed at, given their exploits last term.

The East Londoners have not had the success they would have hoped for by any means in the transfer market, but Potter has shown promising glimpses that suggest he may be able to get more out of what is already in the building.

Date Opponent Result

19 July Grasshopper 3-1 Win

27 July Manchester United 2-1 Loss

30 July Everton 2-1 Win

3 August Bournemouth 2-0 Win

9 August Lille ?

West Ham’s pre-season so far.

With that in mind, they will surely be fuming with Collymore following his latest round of Premier League predictions on his X account.

The former Liverpool and Aston Villa frontman has made a yearly habit of trying to predict the final league table at the start of each season, and this time around, he has suggested that West Ham will finish in a lowly 16th place.

While it is nothing more than his personal opinion, the Hammers faithful are well within their rights to be a little miffed by their anticipated standing, given some of their team’s displays in pre-season.

Hermansen signing to be key for Potter

West Ham look set to be handed a major boost by the imminent signing of Mads Hermansen.

A fee has been agreed with Leicester to secure the Dane’s signature, and there now appears to be little standing in the way of his move to the London Stadium.

The importance of this addition really cannot be overstated for Potter, as he finally gets to address the dire goalkeeping situation at the club.

Alphonse Areola has been left as the only senior option, but he lacks the consistency to be a reliable option as a Premier League number one.

However, Hermansen is a much more capable gloveman, and it is no exaggeration to suggest that his arrival could make a difference to West Ham’s standing all on its own.
