Jacob Ramsey is a player West Ham would love to see light up the London Stadium next season.
It is no wonder that the Hammers are interested in Ramsey after his Premier League campaign last season.
While his performances often went under the radar, he was the backbone in Aston Villa’s midfield along with Youri Tielemans. As a result, he seems like the perfect option to strengthen Graham Potter’s midfield.
And with over a week until West Ham face Sunderland in their first Premier League games of the season, the club still has work to do.

Villa offers Ramsey a new contract amid West Ham interest
West Ham seemed to be well aware that Villa did not want to sell one of their best players. However, the Hammers appeared to believe they could close the deal.

But it seems a move to the London Stadium may not be on the cards after a recent update.
As reported by John Townley via X on Friday (8 August), Villa have offered Ramsey a new contract. The 24-year-old is in the final years of his current deal and has garnered interest from several clubs this summer.

26 April 2022: Ramsey signed a contract extension with the Villans
The latest development by no means comes as a surprise. West Ham’s interest in the player could have driven the Villans to their decision.
But even if Ramsey does not arrive in East London this window, this is a step in the right direction. Despite not having European football to offer, the Hammers are taking active steps to sign top talents on the market.
This demonstrates that Potter is determined to compete this forthcoming season, and West Ham could be on their way to securing a spot in Europe as a result.

West Ham are on the path to success
Other than a disappointing defeat to Manchester United, West Ham have had a solid pre-season thus far.
While the majority of their games have been low-scoring, there has been an element of danger within their attack and solidity about their defence.
The Hammers have impressed during pre-season
A few more signings, particularly in the midfield, could be just what the doctor ordered. However, Potter seems to be building something that West Ham fans can get on board with for the new season.
But before then, Hammers fans have one more game to look forward to when against Lille on Saturday (9 August).
