Manchester United have agreed to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko for a total fee of around £74m.

Sesko will provide United with a tall, fast striker who can become that direct focal point up front. He will get service from the likes of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes, creating what could potentially be one of the most exciting attacks in the Premier League.

However, Sesko’s arrival has plunged Hojlund’s future into doubt, as the Danish attacker will now likely start the season on the bench, and his minutes could significantly decrease when Sesko arrives.

AC Milan begin negotiations for Hojlund deal

Hojlund has generated a lot of transfer interest this summer, mainly from Serie A. In recent weeks, Inter Milan, Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan have all been linked with signing the Danish international.

It seems that AC Milan are the first to make a concrete move for the 22-year-old, as Sky Sports Italy have reported that the Italian giants have ‘begun negotiations’ to sign Hojlund this summer, with United open to letting him leave.

The report says that Milan would like to sign Hojlund on a one-year loan with an option to buy next summer. It adds that an agreement wouldn’t be difficult to reach, considering that Hojlund’s role at United will be reduced next season.

However, the main thing stopping a potential move is that the 22-year-old would prefer to stay at United and fight for the starting role with Sesko, despite the fact that the Slovenian is expected to be the starter next year.

A move to Milan could benefit the Danish international, but equally, if he does improve at United, Hojlund would have the chance to usurp Sesko and take a starting spot in Amorim’s squad.

Hojlund could join up with Erik Ten Hag

Despite all the reports saying that the majority of interest in Hojlund is from the Serie A, there is a chance that the striker could move to the Bundesliga instead. Earlier in the week, reports in Germany emerged saying that Hojlund could move to Bayer Leverkusen.

It would reunite the 22-year-old with former United manager Erik Ten Hag, who paid £72m for him in 2023. The reports have said that Ten Hag is “pushing hard” to sign Hojlund this summer, as he still believes in his potential for development.

Hojlund’s best season at United was two years ago, under Ten Hag, when the 22-year-old managed to score 16 goals in 43 games for United in all competitions. It may be that the striker suits the Dutchman’s style of football more than Ruben Amorim. If so, a move to Leverkusen maybe on loan would perhaps benefit Hojlund the most.
