Tyrell Malacia has responded after former Feyenoord teammate Toshio Lake completed a transfer to the Belgian club Olympic Charleroi.

Lake's move comes a month after Malacia informed Manchester United that he wants to leave the club during this summer transfer window. He was one of five players to do so, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford being the others.

Of those, only the latter has secured a move away after joining Barcelona on loan. Malacia spent the second half of last season on loan at PSV, but they did not exercise their option to make that move permanent.

The defender commented on Lake's post that carries the caption 'Home stretch. Matthew 5:14-16 "You are the light of the world", proclaiming: "God is great." Joshua Zirkzee, another of his teammates during their time together at Feyenoord, responded by saying: "Love it bro go get em !!"

Lake acknowledged last year in an interview with his management company, Status Pro Sport, that he still keeps in touch with Malacia and Zirkzee more than most. "I still speak to almost everyone, some more than others," Lake said.

"At Feyenoord, I played with a lot of really good guys: Joshua Zirkzee, Ramon Hendriks, Quilindschy Hartman, the Timber brothers [Jurrien and Quinten], Lutsharel Geertruida and Tyrell Malacia. And then I'm probably forgetting a bunch.

"With the Dutch national team, there were Bryan Brobbey, Nigel Thomas, Mohammed Ihattaren, and I could go on. I still have a lot of contact with Joshua Zirkzee and Quinten Timber, but perhaps the most with Tyrell Malacia.

"Tyrell and I went through a phase where we were both injured at the same time. Then you really support each other through the process. I talk a lot about God with Quinten; he really helped me get closer to God."
