'I've heard': ‘Unbelievable’ Arsenal star hasn't signed a new contract yet and could be sold now - journalist

Andrea Berta has done a great job at Arsenal.

The Italian was appointed as the club’s new sporting director at the end of March, replacing Edu Gaspar at the Emirates Stadium.

Since taking charge, Berta has signed six new players and has also extended the contracts of three very important Arsenal stars – Ethan Nwaneri is the latest to sign a new deal.

The focus now has to be on player sales, and one attacker could be heading out the door soon.

Leandro Trossard has not signed a new contract and could leave

Leandro Trossard has been a very good player for Arsenal.

The Belgium international joined the Gunners in January 2023, after Mikel Arteta missed out on the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk, who went to Chelsea.

Trossard was the second choice, but he has delivered a number of excellent performances during his time at the club. Having initially cost just £20 million, he has been worth every penny.

Now, the ‘unbelievable‘ 30-year-old has entered the final year of his contract, and his future is up in the air.

The BBC’s Sami Mokbel has revealed that Trossard and Arsenal were actually close to sealing a new deal at the start of the window, but the attacker has fallen short of signing it.

As a result, he could be on the move in this window.

Mokbel said: “I think there’s a chance that Leandro Trossard could go. At the start of the window, I knew there were talks and positive talks over his contract, and I thought that it was near nailed on that he would stay.

“But I think that situation, in terms of his contract, hasn’t progressed at the rate that Arsenal had hoped.

“While I think that a deal for that contract is there or thereabouts to be agreed in principle, he has fallen short of signing it at the moment. So that’s an interesting dynamic in itself, that it remains unsigned.

“So, when I try and compute that, it suggests to me that he may be up for going. And also that maybe, perhaps Arsenal would be willing to listen to offers for him.

“That is certainly one to watch. I don’t want to be definitive here and say he’s definitely going because I don’t know that to be the case. But from what I’ve heard over the past maybe five days to a week, I think that there is a chance that Trossard goes.”

Arsenal selling Leandro Trossard could be good news

Arsenal fans cannot say a bad word about Trossard – he has been one of their best value-for-money signings in a long time.

However, the Gunners’ only weak spot in their squad is on the left flank, and they need an upgrade on both Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli in that position.

If the Belgian can be moved on for a decent fee, Arsenal can then sign a better left-winger – someone like Rodrygo Goes or Rafael Leao would be perfect there.

Even Eberechi Eze, who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, would be a fine signing if Trossard is sold in the coming days.

Trossard deserves a lot of praise for the work he has done at Arsenal, but now is the right time to move on.
