Report: Tottenham could hijack Arsenal transfer with move now expected to accelerate

Tottenham Hotspur could move to hijack Arsenal and revisit their interest in Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze after James Maddison's knee injury, according to Miguel Delaney.

Spurs have been looking to build on their Europa League success by bolstering their squad ahead of a Champions League campaign this season, with new manager Thomas Frank bringing in Kota Takai, Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha so far.

But the club are keen to bring in a new attacking midfielder and their in Eze has been well documented previously, and they could now look to make a move once again.

Tottenham Could Move for Eze After Maddison Injury

Eberechi Eze in action for England

Eze has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, with the "superstar" playmaker's £68m release clause seen to be good value for a player of his quality in the transfer market.

But so far a deal has not materialised, and the Gunners now face seeing their interest rivalled by their local rivals.

Spurs were rocked by news that Maddison is likely to miss the majority of the 2025/26 season after rupturing his ACL during a pre-season clash with Newcastle in South Korea last week, and they are now looking at potential replacements in the transfer market.

26-year-old Eze is expected to leave Crystal Palace this summer, and Delaney wrote in his latest newsletter for The Independent, that sources connected to the situation expect interest to ramp up in the coming days.

But while Arsenal don't want to pay the full release clause amount, there is talk that Tottenham could look to swoop in and hijack the deal by making their own play for Eze.

GIVEMESPORT key statistics: Eberechi Eze scored the winning goal in Crystal Palace's first ever FA Cup final win over Man City last season.

Thomas Frank had previously been looking at a deal for Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White to strengthen the number ten position, and a £60m deal was on the cards after the north London club were ready to trigger his release clause.

But Forest challenged the deal as they never gave Tottenham permission to speak to the player, therefore the release clause should have been unknown, and after threatening legal action they eventually convinced the player to sign a new three-year contract instead.

Now with Maddison's injury there is an even greater need to strengthen the attacking midfield positions, while captain Heung-Min Son has left to join LAFC too, meaning Eze could also come in on the left wing.

Eze is expected to feature for Palace in the Community Shield on Sunday against Liverpool, but interest is expected to pick up next week and Spurs could be back in the mix.
