NETO has left the [Cherries](http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/cherries/clubnews/) to join Botafogo.

The keeper returns to Brazil after a three-year spell on the south coast, after he joined AFC Bournemouth on a free transfer from Barcelona.

The move represents a significant wage saving for Bournemouth, which, combined with the salary saving and the £4million fee for Mark Travers to join Everton, has helped the Cherries balance the fee they paid for Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea.

As the 36-year-old keeper was no longer number one with the arrival of Petrovic, the transfer was a sensible one for both player and club.

Neto went on loan at Arsenal last season, after dropping down the pecking order.

He joins Jaidon Anthony, Joe Rothwell and Travers as players who Bournemouth have successfully moved on after loan spells last term.

Neto has played a total of 63 times for the Cherries, keeping 13 clean sheets.

After his arrival, he displaced Travers as the club’s number one, playing 28 times in his first season and being named club captain in February 2023.

He then played 32 times in the 23/24 campaign, but lost the number one slot for the following season to Kepa Arrizabalaga, after he joined on loan from Chelsea.

Neto has featured in pre-season, but flew straight to Brazil from the USA to complete the move away from the Cherries.
