6 Takeaways from Arsenal’s Asia Tour

Introduction: Six Lessons from Arsenal’s Asia Tour

Arsenal Asia’s pre-tour created a lot of buzz among supporters. The Gunners toured the continent, playing against strong sides and massive crowds. Mikel Arteta utilized the tour to try out his team, make them physically fit, and engage with fans worldwide. It was not so much about winning. It was about learning and development ahead of the new season.

Here are six things we learned from Arsenal’s Asia tour.

Youngsters Stole the Limelight

Youngsters stole the limelight, with one of the positives being the emergence of the youth. Ethan Nwaneri impressed with his vision and calmness in midfield. He felt at ease even against the veterans. Myles Lewis-Skelly impressed with maturity and drive. Reuell Walters and Lino Sousa also impressed at the back.

Arteta gave these youngsters actual minutes. They showed they are not only future stars—they are already there. It’s a huge confidence booster for the academy and fans who would prefer homegrown players.

Match Fitness Looked Promising

Pre-tour is when fitness means the most. The players were behind the pace in the first game. But by the last game of the tour, the team was quicker, sharper, and better organized. The Arsenal players pressed high, ran aggressively, and remained alert for 90 minutes.

It is evident that the coaching team did their best as regards conditioning. With so many matches to play, fitness will make a big difference this season.

Arsenal’s New Signings Are Finding Their Feet

Everyone always wants to see new players play. This tour provided them with a first look at how they’re settling in. Riccardo Calafiori was serene and wise in defense. His passing began attacks from a distance. Some new midfielders and forwards also had opportunities to impress.

They do take time to settle fully, but they showed class. Arteta is introducing them to his system gradually, and things are looking up.

Squad Depth Appears Solid

The second major observation was depth in strength. Arsenal played with alternate lineups in each of the matches. Even with rotation, the team was strong and competitive. Players such as Tomiyasu, Trossard, Kiwior, and Jorginho demonstrated that they can be brought into action and deliver.

Injuries hampered the title challenge last year. This season, the club seems to be better prepared. A strong bench will help Arsenal struggle on two fronts—domestic cups and the Premier League and Champions League.

Set-Piece Problems Continue

Not all was well. Set pieces remained Arsenal’s Achilles heel. Arsenal was leaking goals from corners and free kicks. It was an issue last year also. The defense would lose their marker or take a fraction of a second too long to respond.

If Arsenal are to lift major trophies, this needs to be addressed. Arteta will need to work his defenders hard to get this addressed. Inconsistencies can lose major games.

Asian Fans Were Amazing

One of the tour’s best moments was the incredible fan support. Everywhere the Gunners played, in South Korea and Japan, and everywhere else on tour, Arsenal fans packed out stadiums, waved flags, and sang their hearts out. Even some fans camped overnight outside hotels to catch a glimpse of the players.

This type of international support indicates how far Arsenal has advanced. It also gets the players loved and charged. Football means nothing without supporters, and those in Asia demonstrated that with their zeal.

Final Thoughts on the Arsenal’s tour

Arsenal’s Asian tour was not all about the pre-season games. It was one of learning, bonding, and getting ready to encounter greater battles down the line. The young guns shone. The new players held out hope. The side itself appeared tighter and sharper as a unit.

There are things to be worked on, naturally. But the big picture is all right. Arsenal looks ready to fight.

Author’s Opinion

This tour rejuvenated me more than anything for the upcoming season. Camaraderie within the team was also highest. Players such as Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly, who are young players, are a few rays of hope for the future. I also enjoyed how Arteta handled the team. He got minutes for all, not only the regulars.

The only area I would like to see tightened up in haste is set-piece defense. If we get that right, we’re ready to face anyone. I do have belief in this team, and I think the fans do as well. I hope the hard work in Asia pays off when the big games start.
