Kirby hit and miss from the spot as lively Albion draw with Ajax in pre-season

Kirby forced two spot kicks in the game at Lancing with her trickery and then her pressing work.

She saw the first well saved in the bottom corner but sent the second to the other side and scored with ease.

Kiko Seike was also on target as the winger produced the type of centre forward’s finish we saw from her compatriot Kaoru Miroma in the Premier League late last season.

Charlie Rule’s clever pass sent Jelena Cankovic in down the left to send over a low cross.

Seike got there first, ahead of her marker, to force the ball home.

Albion really should have scored more than two as the seniors played the first half of a 60-minute match.

Head coach Dario Vidosic said: “There was probably a period where we did get a little bit sloppy and I think that's probably down to a bit of fatigue in the players’ legs, which is also normal at this point of the season.

“But I think we created a lot. We were good in large parts, without the ball we were very solid.

“With the ball we're still in a new sort of way of playing, which we're still adapting to. But overall, there’s a lot of pleasing factors and stuff to work on.”
