David de Gea’s ‘highly regarded’ wonderkid teammate on radar of Man Utd and two Premier League clubs, ‘classified as…’

A Fiorentina wonderkid who plays alongside David de Gea has emerged on the transfer radar of Manchester United in recent months, according to reports in Italy.

David de Gea is set for an emotional return to Old Trafford on Saturday for Manchester United’s final pre-season match of the tour under Ruben Amorim.

The 34-year-old Spaniard left the Premier League club after 12 seasons at Old Trafford after United chose not to extend De Gea’s contract back in 2023.

De Gea, who lifted the Premier League Golden Glove in his final campaign with United, spent the 2023-24 season on the sidelines after his Red Devils exit.

However, the former Spain international made his long-awaited return to football last summer after United legend De Gea signed on a free transfer with Fiorentina.

David de Gea signed off his first full Serie A season with Fiorentina and the former Manchester United No 1 has been able to see Pietro Comuzzo’s abilities first-hand.

Pietro Comuzzo has been linked with United in the past and the Red Devils are not alone in their interest, with Sunderland and Nottingham Forest both interested, too.

The 20-year-old Italian centre-back came through the Fiorentina youth academy and Comuzzo has been gaining more attention from clubs in Europe after his emergence.

Firenze Viola cited a report from Tuttosport that described the United-linked Comuzzo as the ‘most highly regarded player’ at Fiorentina ‘alongside Moise Kean.’

According to the Italian newspaper (as per Firenze Viola), there have been ‘several Premier League scouts’ who have been ‘interested’ in the Fiorentina wonderkid.

Fiorentina’s price tag for Pietro Comuzzo ahead of David de Gea’s return to Old Trafford for the Man Utd match

Pietro Comuzzo is under contract with the Serie A club until 2029 and the emerging Fiorentina talent has made 50 first-team appearances and netted once for his side.

Firenze Viola has said that ‘various admirers’ like Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and United will all have to brace themselves for a battle to land the Italian wonderkid.

It is believed that the former Udinese and Pordenone youth talent does carry a hefty price tag, with the view that Fiorentina will demand ‘€40m or more’ for him.

According to reports in Italy, Comuzzo has been ‘classified as unsellable’ and the Serie A club previously rejected Napoli’s offer of €30m and add-ons back in January.
