Manchester City will launch bid to beat Chelsea to 26-year-old PSG star if this happens

Manchester City are prepared to make a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma for the right price and beat Chelsea for the 26-year-old PSG star.

According to an update by Alfredo Pedulla, Manchester City could be open to making a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma if PSG are willing to sell him at the right price. So far, the Parisians have not indicated their asking price, as Pep Guardiola’s side will enter the race for figures between €25-30 million and beat competition from the likes of Chelsea.

One thing this window has shown so far is that top teams are not ready to pay over the odds for goalkeepers, who are in a tricky contractual situation. For instance, earlier in the market, Chelsea refused to pay more than their valuation of Mike Maignan, and that might be their stance for Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The 26-year-old PSG star is in the market after failing to agree on a new deal with the Parisians, with the French giants already landing Lucas Chevalier as his potential replacement. That is not to rule out a stay for the Italian in Paris, but so far the signs point towards an exit, possibly in this window or on a free transfer next year.

PSG are expecting Chelsea to make a move, but so far, the Blues have not made any concrete steps towards making that wish into a reality. They are still thinking about upgrading on Robert Sanchez, but the Spaniard himself has shown enough improvement in form to warrant another chance to shine. Mike Maignan is also a name still on their list if Chelsea make a move for a keeper in the latter stages of the window.

Manchester United also held an interest, but there are considerable doubts whether they will make a concrete move for the Italian. Manchester City are also keen, but the situation with their goalkeeping setup is rather complicated, as a new arrival might hinge on whether Ederson Moraes and Stefan Ortega depart.

Manchester City are ready to move for the right price

Manchester City have already signed James Trafford, and while the former Burnley star is viewed closer to being the No.1 choice, Donnarumma’s availability could turn Guardiola’s head. The Premier League giants are only willing to make a move for the Italian if PSG are willing to sell at around €25-30 million.

If not, they will continue to keep faith in one of Stefan Ortega or Ederson Moraes, while Trafford could be fast-tracked into becoming their new No.1 sooner. For now, a move for Donnarumma might still be on the cards, but it will entirely depend on PSG and their valuation of the 26-year-old.
