Patrick Bamford tipped to make bold move, as Wolverhampton Wanderers line up deal for Leeds…

As the new Premier League season approaches, Leeds United fans have accepted that it will be the last one for Patrick Bamford. The striker was the star of the show when the Whites were promoted in 2020.

He scored 17 goals that season, as Leeds breezed to a top half finish under Marcelo Bielsa. This time around, he may not even get the chance to touch the pitch. Head coach Daniel Farke has already made his plans clear – and Bamford will not be involved in them.

With over a week to go till the Premier League opener, no official move has been made to sign Patrick Bamford. The striker has been involved in friendlies with the U21s side over the past few weeks. Graham Smyth has been discussing the 31-year old’s future on the Inside Elland Road podcast:

“I am fascinated to see what Bamford does.

“Does he does he stick it out thinking, ‘you know what? I’ve no real financial incentive to move. I might only have to wait 10 games and Leeds might get a new manager. Maybe the new manager will will want me.’

“But then, at the same time, there’s a huge risk to that because Leeds are in the market for a striker. All right, they haven’t got one yet and they’re taking their sweet time about it.

“But they’ve also got Lucas Nmecha, they’ve got Harry Gray coming through, and they’ve got Joel Piroe who was last year’s golden boot winner in the Championship.”

Wolves set to swoop in on Leeds target

Leeds have also been in the market, trying to find some reinforcements in attack. Since missing out on signing Igor Paixao, the club have been linked with a host of targets.

This week, John Percy of the Telegraph has reported that Wolves are monitoring Nantes forward Matthis Abline. The 22-year old scored 11 goals for the French club last season. Abline had been linked with Leeds and Sunderland previously.

What will Patrick Bamford do?

As it stands, no clubs are in for him this summer. And if reports are to be believed, his wages are a huge stumbling block. Bamford has been linked to Wrexham previously, but Graeme Bailey said that any exit will need some serious involvement from Leeds:

“His wages are very high and his wages have gone back to Premier League level now.” he told The Wrexham Insider.

“So Leeds are going to have to pull some sort of deal off to supplement that, to pay him off. It’s going to be very expensive.”

There is a very high chance he sees out the rest of his contract while playing with the U21s next season.
