Holmes shared some of his initial thoughts about Athens and his new chapter with Panathinaikos, saying he had never experienced anything like this before.
"I came here to win. I am where I want to be, to play, and I came to win. What is happening is impressive — it’s the first time in my life that I’m experiencing it, and I can’t wait to step onto the court," Holmes said, speaking to the media via Sportal.gr.
“They showed me that they really wanted me, and that meant a lot to me — to feel that they want me. It’s a huge club, and I want to be part of Panathinaikos’ legacy," he continued, explaining his decision to join Panathinaikos.
Holmes can’t wait to experience the atmosphere the fans create at OAKA, and he says he’s ready to help Panathinaikos win another EuroLeague title.
"I saw videos on the internet of the team’s fans, and I can’t wait to be at OAKA and witness the atmosphere the crowd creates… I’m ready to fight. Let’s go for the 8th!" Holmes stated.
According to earlier reports, Holmes is expected to sign a 1+1 contract with the Greens.
He brings with him years of NBA experience, having played for the Sixers, Suns, Kings, Mavericks, and most recently the Wizards. Over his career, he has averaged 8.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1 assist in 19 minutes per game.
During the 2024–25 season with Washington, he posted 7.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists over 31 games, playing 17 minutes per contest.
