KILDIMO-PALLASKENRY and Newcastle West played out 2-16 to 2-16 draw in round two of the Limerick senior hurling championship in Sean Finn Park, Rathkeale on Friday evening.

Both sides had their spells of dominance at the west Limerick venue, and while Kildimo-Pallaskenry appeared to be on their way to claimining the two points on offer after 50 minutes leading 2-13 to 0-13. The Magpies finished strongly and looked the more likely winners in the closing stage after they went 2-16 to 2-14 in front on 57 minutes but two points late on meant both sides had to settle for the draw.

Newcastle West’s relentless battling with just fourteen men for 43 minutes of the contest was matched by Kildimo-Pallaskenry’s resilience, as they dug out a draw despite losing Limerick senior hurler Kyle Hayes to injury.

Kildimo-Pallaskenry burst out of the blocks, with Declan Nash’s side racking up 1-2 inside the opening five minutes. Early scores from David Fitzgerald and Jack O’Keefe set the tone, before Limerick U20 star Rob O’Farrell turned provider for the first goal. The Castletroy College student slipped a well-weighted pass to Ciaran McMahon, who drilled the sliotar past Newcastle West goalkeeper Mike Quilligan.
