2. A look at the O-line
Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh said Friday before practice that the team will move Joe Alt to left tackle and slot Trey Pipkins III in at right tackle after Slater's injury.
The interior, from left to right, is expected to be Zion Johnson, Bradley Bozeman and Mekhi Becton.
But with Bozeman and Becton not practicing Friday, the Chargers had a bit of a mixed unit up front.
Alt and Pipkins were at the tackle spots and Johnson was at left guard, but Andre James filled in at center while Jamaree Salyer lined up at right guard.
Johnson and James later switched positions for the end of practice, with Johnson moving to center for a few reps.
Harbaugh said earlier in the week that Johnson will play center in the second preseason game against the Saints.
3. McConkey returns to practice
The Chargers got a boost Friday when Ladd McConkey returned to practice.
The wide receiver had missed some recent practices but was back in on a limited basis Friday.
McConkey did not participate in full-team drills but did get some reps in 7-on-7 and caught a pass from Herbert.
