ATLANTA -- Detroit Lions defensive back Morice Norris was injured on the first play of the fourth quarter, with an ambulance taking him off the field.
Norris made an attempt at a diving run stop on Atlanta Falcons running back Nathan Carter, when it appeared he took a knee to the facemask. Trainers came onto the field with the backboard and the cart to take him off the field almost immediately.
After a couple of minutes, trainers waved for the ambulance to come onto the field for the injured defensive back. Both teams took a knee on the field and the sideline while Norris was down, clearing the way for the ambulance to come onto the field.
Head coach Dan Campbell and the Lions had a full-team huddle on the field as Norris was loaded into the ambulance. Lions players were visibly shaken while everything unfolded during the scary scene.
The Lions were leading 17-10 with 14:50 left at the time of the injury. Norris spent last season with the Lions as an undrafted rookie out of Fresno State by way of Orange Coast College.
The Lions’ television broadcast said Norris was “indeed blinking his eyes” while being loaded into the ambulance. This post will update with any word from team officials on the nature of his injury.
Both teams shared a moment on the field together, as the clock continues to run in Atlanta.
