What Keith Andrews has said

Speaking after Brentford’s win over QPR last weekend, Bees boss Keith Andrews said: “It was a good representation of where we’re at as a group three quarters of the way through pre-season. We’re 15 days away from Nottingham Forest and I think you could see where we’re functioning really well.

“Physically, I thought we looked strong, we looked athletic, we looked like we had really good structure with and without the ball. The area of fine tuning was that last little bit of quality; the final third, that little pass, that decision, that real conviction of going and getting the second and third goal,” he explained.

“We knew it was going to be a proper game with an edge. When it got tetchy, we fronted that and equally, didn’t get carried away. We remained really calm and confident in what we were doing and how we were going about things."

What Graham Potter has said of West Ham’s chances

Speaking after West Ham’s USA tour, Hammers boss Graham Potter said: “I think we’ve had good exposure to the sorts of challenges we’re going to face throughout the season, including during the games. Training's been good with the players, so basically I think we’ve just taken an overall step forward. I think we’re more connected and together, which is really good.”

He added: “Every day, we’re getting closer to where it all matters. As long as we just focus on the next day and keep improving, I’m really positive we’re going to have a strong season.”

What Oliver Glasner has said

Palace boss Glasner spoke about this weekend’s Community Shield clash with Liverpool after his side’s pre-season trip to Austria. He said: “When you have the chance to win silverware, then go for it – and we will go for it. We’re facing the champions and we’re facing a team really buying big players, high-quality players, but it's a great challenge and we're looking forward to the game, Wembley again.

“We have great memories of Wembley. We’re looking forward to it. We will be ready and it's the same with Liverpool. I don't expect they will be in the best possible shape but it’s the same with us, and we go for the next trophy. If you have the chance to win two trophies within three months, let's go for it!”
