Minnesota primary election results 2025

Several elected offices will complete primaries or special elections on Aug. 12, including the first candidates vying to fill assassinated Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman’s seat, and a St. Paul City Council seat left vacant by outgoing council President Mitra Jalali.

Minnesota’s other primary races, which determine the names that will appear on November general election ballots, include local races like mayors, county commissioners, city council members and local schools questions. In those local nonpartisan primaries, at least two winners will proceed to the general election depending on the number of open positions.

Polling places close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, and vote totals will update automatically as precincts finalize and transmit preliminary results. A special election in Glenwood Township is not reporting results to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office and is not shown.
