Manchester United fans will undoubtedly be delighted to see David de Gea and Sir Alex Ferguson reunite in the city this weekend ahead of the former's return to Old Trafford on Saturday.

Ferguson began De Gea's journey at United in 2011 when he signed him to replace Edwin van der Sar between the sticks. The Spaniard would go on to win the Premier League, Europa League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup with United in a legendary spell which saw him pick up 545 appearances for the club.

In 2023, De Gea's association with United ended as Erik ten Hag looked to bring in a goalkeeper who could distribute from the back better. Andre Onana was signed as De Gea's replacement and the Spaniard was left without a club.

De Gea missed the entirety of the 2023/24 season as he pondered his next move in the game. Eventually, last summer, he was offered a short-term contract at Fiorentina and excelled becoming their first choice in Italy.

That deal was then extended with De Gea's future in Florence committed until 2028. On Saturday, the 34-year-old will make his first return to Old Trafford since his exit from the club and the Reds are set to mark the occasion by conducting a pre-match presentation with Bruno Fernandes and the shot stopper.

Before that happens, journalist Fabrizio Romano shared pictures on Instagram that he promised United fans would love. The three pictures showed De Gea reuniting with Ferguson at a restaurant in Manchester.

It appeared as though Ferguson was not expecting to see De Gea at the restaurant but was more than happy to reunite with him. The goalkeeper joined the United legend at his table before catching up.
