Newcastle United reported transfer target Samu Aghehowa is already making waves in his native Spain. The 21-year-old Porto striker is the latest frontman to be linked with a move to St James' Park as the Magpies look to find a solution to the Alexander Isak situation.

Isak has made it clear he wants to explore his options away from United, with Liverpool keen to take him to Anfield.

Newcastle won't consider any offers until they have a replacement - and even then the Reds will have to meet United's valuation of the Swede.

After seeing Benjamin Sesko opt for Manchester United, Newcastle have been linked with several strikers, including Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson and Ollie Watkins of Aston Vila.

However reported interest in Aghehowa - formerly known as Samu Omorodion - emerged on Friday, with the Porto striker ticking plenty of boxes as far as United's needs are concerned.

Although he may be only 21, he scored 27 goals in 45 appearances for the Portuguese side, including six in nine Europa League appearances and two at the Club World Cup.

The Athletic report he has a €100m release clause but he is one of the rising stars of Spanish football after making his debut for the national side last season.

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente brought him into the squad last November at the expense of former Newcastle striker Joselu, and he had no doubt over his potential.

"The family's growing and you always have to add new elements," De la Fuente said last November after calling him into the Spain squad.

"Now is a moment to give chances to players that have earned it, with an eye on the future. There's a lot of potential out there and we want to see it at the top level.

"Samu is just 20 and has the potential to be a top striker, but he has to keep growing and remain consistent. I hope he maintains his form for a long time because his room for improvement is massive.

"We want different options up front. I don't like the expression false nine. We have forwards who can play between the lines, with a lot of movement, all types.

"Samu is good with his back to goal, strong in transition, shoots well, is comfortable in the box. He can adapt to what we like."

Whether Porto hold out for his release clause price remains to be seen, but the Portuguese side now have full ownership following his move from Atleitco Madrid.

Atletico initially held 50 per cent of his 'economic rights' following the 2024 transfer, but Porto have since bought the remaining part of the contract to fully own the players' registration.
