'Outstanding' - Celtic told to sign a 'real good talent' from Liverpool who can play 'the…

Celtic must be searching for the player who will replace Callum McGregor when he finally decides to hang up his boots.

Thankfully, that day is not too close as McGregor, at 31, has plenty of years ahead of him and still has three years left on his current Celtic deal.

But there is no denying that Celtic do need to look ahead now and start preparing for that day because, as it stands right now, there is not a player at the club who is even close to being good enough to lace McGregor’s boots.

And the club have been told that there is an ‘outstanding’ player at Liverpool who could step into the Celtic captain’s role.

Peter Grant tells Celtic Liverpool star Stefan Bajčetić can play McGregor’s role

Peter Grant has told Celtic that Liverpool’s Stefan Bajčetić is good enough to play the role of the Celtic captain.

And he has sent a glowing report to Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers.

Grant told The Go Radio Football Show, “Well, when I seen him playing come in as a young player, he played a few games for Liverpool and he was outstanding.

“And then he got a bad injury and he went abroad. I’m not sure if it was Spain actually, and played over there.

“I don’t know how well he’d done out there. But when he broke into the Liverpool squad, I thought he’d done excellent in a very, very good Liverpool side. He had handled himself ever so well.

“And he looked a real good talent. Where he is now, Paul, his injuries, and obviously I don’t know the amount of game time he got out on loan.

“But I was very impressed with him at that particular time. So if he’s that type of player that, probably the Callum McGregor role, that’s where he would play, he was more of a playmaker than anything else.”

What Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp said about Stefan Bajčetić should excite Celtic fans

Bajčetić has progressed through the Liverpool Academy and made his first-team debut for the Anfield club at just 17 years old in August 2022.

During his time at the club, he impressed the then manager Jurgen Klopp and what he said about the 20-year-old defensive midfielder should excite Celtic fans.

Klopp told Liverpool FC after the youngster signed a new deal, “We were pretty careful with him, because of his age.

“He showed now he is ready and for us it is very helpful, with all of his natural skills.

“It’s something we didn’t show often enough in the recent games; aggression, but a good aggression, it’s not that he kicks players.

“He is a good footballer on top of that, so that’s obviously very important in the centre of the park.

“I am really pleased he signed his new contract. He deserves it and I think he is really happy about it.”

A tough, aggressive defensive midfielder is something Celtic have been crying out for for years and it seems Bajčetić is the man the Hoops need.
