Everton are one of the Premier League clubs that are keen to sign John McGinn from Aston Villa this summer.
David Moyes faces one final pre-season friendly before the Premier League opener against Leeds United in just over a week’s time.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall secured his move to Everton earlier this week, but there could still be room for more midfield additions.
Moyes has admitted the likes of James Garner has not impressed him this summer, prior to the last outing against Manchester United.
“I’ve actually been pretty disappointed in Jimmy in the early games in pre-season, but not tonight [vs Man United],” said Moyes.
Everton are showing an interest in McGinn, having already presented an £18m bid for the Scotland international.
And there is now some fresh optimism that a deal could still be done.

Why Aston Villa could sell John McGinn to Everton
Everton have had McGinn on their radar for a while now, with Moyes impressed by the midfielder’s experience and leadership.
MORE EVERTON STORIES
However, they were given an instant rejection from Villa, who maintain the player is not for sale.
According to the Daily Mail, Villa could well be forced into selling McGinn this summer due to their PSR issues.
The report claims interest from Everton is strong and it is not a straightforward situation.
But Moyes is a massive fan of McGinn, and the Scot is seen as the perfect player to come into the Everton dressing room this summer.
Moyes has demanded nine new signings at Everton before the window shuts, and it is clear he feels McGinn could bring a lot off the pitch as well as on it.
Villa may be in a sticky spot when it comes to PSR, but if they are forced into sales, Everton will be there to offer them some money for McGinn’s services.
John McGinn has two years remaining on his current deal
At the age of 30, McGinn now has two years remaining on his deal at Aston Villa.
It has been claimed that Everton have put forward an £18m offer for the Scot, which was quickly knocked back by Villa.
Moyes is keen to have experience around his squad, with the likes of Seamus Coleman playing a big role in the dressing room.
McGinn now has Champions League experience and could provide a lot to this Everton squad who are aspiring to return to European football.
He may not be the glamour signing that fans are pining after, but McGinn could bring a lot to this Everton squad.
