Newcastle United ‘will raise offer today’ – Magpies have good chance of securing agreement

Newcastle United aren’t giving up on Malick Thiaw, after seeing their initial €30m bid rejected by AC Milan.

Earlier in this window, the Serie A side accepted a €25m bid from Como, but Thiaw turned them down.

Since then, the centre-back has impressed in pre-season and is now highly valued by Massimiliano Allegri. In addition to this, the Rossoneri are also considering including him in swap deal with Juventus for Dušan Vlahović.

TuttoMercatoWeb reported yesterday that these are the reasons Milan are now asking for a higher price.

Saturday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport points out what has changed since the 24-year-old rejected a move to Como, and then covers the latest on the Magpies.

The Tyneside club are offering the defender a contract worth €4m per year. Therefore, he could a favour a move to St James’ Park, where he can play in the Champions League.

Corriere dello Sport backs up the contract offered by Eddie Howe’s side and provides the latest.

Milan are said to have requested €40m after rejecting a €30m proposal from the Premier League club. If they were to meet the fee demand, the report states Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani would find it difficult to turn it down.

This could happen soon as journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports Newcastle ‘will raise their offer today’ to secure the German’s services.

Di Marzio adds if Thiaw were to push for a transfer, then Milan would seriously consider selling him. The player’s willingness could be decisive for Newcastle.

With Gazzetta and Correire indicating Thiaw is open to a move, there’s a good chance for Howe’s side to agree terms, if Newcastle make an improved offer.
