Aston Villa have reportedly offered a new contract to Jacob Ramsey amid speculation over his future this summer.
The 24-year-old is a product of our Academy, and after coming through the youth ranks, gaining experience on loan elsewhere, he has gone on to score 17 goals and provide 19 assists in 167 appearances for the first-team.

Although injuries have been a problem and he has struggled for consistency, he is a key option for Unai Emery who has spoken glowingly of him on numerous occasions since he arrived at the club, but that hasn’t stopped rumours linking Ramsey with a move away from Villa.
As per Sky Sports’ Mark McAdam, Villa are said to have offered Ramsey a new contract amid that speculation over his future, while he adds that the club are eager to protect his value by offering him improved terms and extending his current deal, which runs until 2027.
Meanwhile, The Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell notes that talks have been ongoing between the two sides over a new contract for some time, but the expectation is that there could be significant progress once the transfer window closes this summer, provided that the midfielder is still with us.
In turn, there still seems to be an air of uncertainty over Ramsey’s future at Villa, but the talk of a possible new contract is reassuring as ideally we’ll keep him at the club and he’ll continue to not only be a key member of the squad, but a more direct link between the supporters and the team given he’s one of our own.
That said, Ramsey himself will know better than anyone that he has to improve his numbers on a more consistent basis, as with Emery and Villa looking to compete at the top level to qualify the Champions League and win trophies, we need every player in the squad making important contributions and being decisive when needed.
If he can’t produce the form required, then the Basque coach may well be forced to consider trying to upgrade in that department, and Ramsey certainly won’t be short of potential suitors and will warrant a significant fee.
Nevertheless, he’s impressed in pre-season thus far, and it’s hoped that he can stay fit, find and sustain his rhythm, and play a fundamental role in our upcoming campaign and beyond while potentially becoming the latest key Villa player to pen a new long-term contract as we keep the core of the current group together.
