Leeds United make ominous player decision ahead of AC Milan friendly

Leeds United have a number of players who will need to find a new club in the final three weeks of the summer transfer window.

Among the Leeds United players who could depart before the deadline is long-term servant Illan Meslier. The Frenchman is one of only three players from the Marcelo Bielsa era of the club remaining.

Pascal Struijk is one of those and the other is Patrick Bamford, but only the Dutch centre-back is in Daniel Farke’s plans and it appears that Meslier could be set to join Bamford in terms of his future at Elland Road.

Weeks ago now, we reported Meslier could stay at Leeds heading into next season, but more recent updates suggest he is heading elsewhere now.

Illan Meslier not involved for Leeds against AC Milan

Already, it has been stated that there is an acceptance Meslier will leave Leeds this summer, with Leeds reportedly offering Meslier to other clubs at one stage and with an exit edging closer.

Ligue 1 outfit RC Strasbourg are one side keen on Meslier, per some reports. That is on top of others stating that Meslier has been in talks with Fenerbahce previously as well.

Bamford revealed Meslier’s response to being dropped was a positive enough one. However, Leeds won’t want him sticking around as a second-choice.

Leeds United News exclusively revealed all the details regarding the fact Leeds are now open to selling Meslier following the arrival of Lucas Perri and that has since been made clearer following today’s announcement.

Graham Smyth of The Yorkshire Evening Post is reporting that Meslier has not traveled with the squad today to Dublin to face AC Milan, and the writing appears to be on the wall for the goalkeeper.

He reports that the Frenchman’s future is up in the air at Leeds this summer following the arrival of Perri, who — along with Karl Darlow — will form a one-two pairing for the Premier League.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, Joe Hart shared how he was left in awe by Meslier when he first came onto the Premier League scene but now questions if Leeds have patience with him.

“I just can’t work it out. I remember when he first came to the Premier League, I thought wow, who is this goalkeeper. Baby-faced, great left foot, incredible, absolute cat,” Hart said when discussing Meslier.

“But he’s let some disappointing goals in this season. Sam Allardyce famously took him out of the team. There’s a top, top goalkeeper in him. Whether he’s going to get another chance at Leeds, who knows.

“I don’t know his contract situation. There is a top goalkeeper there, but whether they have the patience to let him show what he can do in the Premier League, I don’t know?”

It seems that Premier League winning goalkeepers rate him but the 25-year-old simply has no future now at Elland Road.
