Real Madrid have confirmed the permanent exit of Brazilian attacker Reinier Jesus to Atletico Mineiro after a failed five-year spell at the Bernabeu.
Formerly one of the most highly-rated prospects in South America, Reinier moved to the Bernabeu from Flamengo for €30m (£26m) just after his 18th birthday in 2020.
However, the attacker was never given the chance to prove himself in the first team as he failed to make a single senior appearance for Los Blancos, who loaned him out four times.
Reinier's Real nightmare is now over, as the 23-year-old has returned to his homeland with Atletico Mineiro on a free transfer, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Brasileiro side.
"Real Madrid CF and Clube Atletico Mineiro have agreed to the transfer of our player Reinier," a statement read. "Real Madrid would like to express its gratitude and affection for the years he has been with our club, and wishes him and his family all the best in this new stage of his life."
Reinier was loaned to Borussia Dortmund, Girona, Frosinone and Granada during his time at the Bernabeu, but he failed to score more than three goals for any of his temporary clubs.

Elsewhere in Europe, Juventus could supposedly try their luck with an audacious swap proposal for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.
The Italy international's early days at St James' Park were hampered by a lengthy betting suspension, but he has since become an integral player for Eddie Howe after serving that 10-month ban.
Tonali registered four goals and two assists in 36 Premier League games last season as the Magpies returned to the Champions League, and he remains contracted to Howe's side for another three years.
However, Gazzettaclaims that Juventus are desperate to lure the midfielder back to his homeland, and the Old Lady could throw in two unwanted players as part of the exchange.
Dusan Vlahovic and one of Douglas Luiz or Nicolo Savona could move in the opposite direction to Tonali, whom Newcastle would also expect a cash sum for as well as the two players.
The Magpies are after a new striker after losing out to Manchester United in the race for Benjamin Sesko, but they are said to be pursuing Paris Saint-Germain's Randal Kolo Muani over Vlahovic at this juncture.
Bournemouth's Dango Ouattara on July 26, 2025
Also on Newcastle's radar is Brentford's Yoane Wissa, whom they may have been handed a boost in their pursuit of thanks to the Bees identifying a suitable replacement.
Brentford have so far managed to resist Newcastle's attempts to prise Wissa away from the Gtech Community Stadium, but it is now seemingly just a matter of time before the DR Congo international moves to St James' Park.
The Bees have also waved goodbye to Bryan Mbeumo in a £71m deal with Manchester United, and they could now reinvest some of those funds into another Premier League attacker.
According to Sky Sports News, Brentford are showing an interest in Bournemouth winger Dango Ouattara, who was in the Lorient academy system at the same time Wissa played for the first team.
The 23-year-old has apparently told the Cherries that he wants to explore his options for a summer exit, but Bournemouth will only sell on their terms after receiving numerous enquiries from across Europe.
Ouattara scored seven goals and set up four more in 32 Premier League matches last season, although he failed to score or assist in any of his last 10 top-flight appearances.
Leeds United have 'genuine' interest in 'ambitious' midfielder move
Brighton & Hove Albion's Facundo Buonanotte on March 10, 2024
Finally, newly-promoted Premier League outfit Leeds United have supposedly expressed a 'genuine interest' in signing Brighton & Hove Albion playmaker Facundo Buonanotte during the summer transfer window.
The 2004-born prospect is back at the Amex following a worthwhile loan spell with Leicester City last season, where he scored six goals and provided three assists in 35 appearances in all tournaments.
Buonanotte was a favourite of Steve Cooper's, but he fell out of favour under Ruud van Nistelrooy and ultimately could not save Leicester from the drop.
Another loan or permanent exit from Brighton has been touted for Buonanotte, and Ben Jacobs reports that Leeds are plotting an 'ambitious' move for the 20-year-old.
However, there is 'low confidence' at Elland Road about their chances of pulling off a deal, as Buonanotte has also caught the eye of clubs competing in the Champions League, including Borussia Dortmund.
The Bundesliga side have apparently held talks and are now weighing up a bid for Buonanotte, who is under contract at Brighton until 2028.
