Manchester United have scouted Fiorentina defender Pietro Comuzzo
Last season was a painful journey for all of us, Manchester United fans. Finishing 15th in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final to Spurs was not easy for any United fan. The mid-season arrival of Ruben Amorim as manager did raise some hopes, but being out of European football for 2025/26 is a big blow for the club’s ambitions.
Still, we made high-profile signings like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in the summer transfer window of 2025. Along with this, the arrival of young Diogo Leon bodes well for the future. We won this pre-season trophy after a 2-2 draw against Everton in the recent Premier League Summer Series, and now the arrival of Benjamin Sesko could also solve the striker problem to a great extent.

Meanwhile, another name has come to the fore—Fiorentina defender Pietro Comuzzo. According to TuttoSport, relayed by FirenzeViola, scouts from Manchester United and Sunderland have had a close look at him. Fiorentina are currently demanding €40m, while Napoli’s €30m+bonuses offer was turned down in January. The 20-year-old centre-back recently revealed that his relationship with the club is deep and he is currently focusing on the Serie A season. United have also scouted him during pre-season friendlies in England, and we also reported our club’s interest in the backend of the previous season.

anchester United and Sunderland have kept a close eye on the Italian.
“The contract renewal [earlier this year] was a strong signal from the club, a demonstration of respect. President [Rocco] Commisso is a wonderful person, and I have a special bond with him. “
“When my mother passed away, he was one of the first to come and console me. This is also why I’m happy to have stayed here, in a city that is a second home to me.”
“Napoli’s offer in January honestly caught me a bit off guard. It all happened so quickly, but apart from the two or three days, the most intense ones, when I thought about it more, once the negotiations were over, I calmly set off on my way, convinced I had made the right choice, and I continued to give my all for this team.”
Comuzzo has a great understanding of defensive positioning, ball control and a calm demeanour. The Italian can bring stability to any backline, and despite his young age, he makes mature decisions on the pitch.
To be honest, our defence needs an upgrade. Lisandro Martínez and Matthijs de Ligt’s fitness issues, Harry Maguire’s shaky performances have all put us in trouble time and again. Meanwhile, Victor Lindelof has left the club as well, and so we might suffer a lack of depth in the backline. A talent like Comuzzo could be a long-term solution for us. He would not only add depth to the backline, but also has a style of play that can adapt to the fast pace of the Premier League.
As for the deal, we think it would be difficult to get it done this summer. Fiorentina are not in the mood to sell right now, and the player is happy there. However, if we make the right offer at the right time and are optimistic, it could be possible in January or next summer. United need a defender who can become the backbone for years to come, and Comuzzo has that potential.
