Oliver Glasner has hinted that he could look to leave Crystal Palace just a matter of days before the 2025/26 Premier League campaign gets underway. The Austrian has been left unhappy by the Eagles’ lack of business so far this summer and has made his discontentment clear both privately and publicly.
A host of Palace players have been linked with moves away from Selhurst Park in recent weeks, with Marc Guehi being considered by Liverpool, numerous European outfits eyeing Jean-Philippe Mateta and Adam Wharton attracting interest from Tottenham and Manchester United.
Arsenal have also shortlisted Eberechi Eze as one of their top targets for the remainder of the summer transfer window, and the north London outfit are growing in confidence that they can get a deal over the line for the Englishman.
But despite marquee departures potentially being in the pipeline, Palace have been quiet in the window so far. They have signed Walter Benitez on a free transfer from PSV to provide depth between the sticks, as well as Borna Sosa from Ajax in a deal worth £3million.
In years gone by, Glasner has pushed for Palace to strengthen early in the window so that new signings can be bedded into his team in pre-season – but his plea has fallen on deaf ears this time.
Speaking on Friday, he was asked about potentially following Guehi out of the Selhurst Park exit next summer when their contracts expire, to which he quipped: “Marc and me, we have the same fate.” He was then pressed on whether his side’s lack of spending will impact his future, replying: “We will see.”
He then added: “I said if we want to be better than last year, then it's my advice, ‘Let's sign at least two players, then we can achieve this’. To be competitive in four competitions. If somebody thinks that's nonsense, OK, let's see.
“If Crystal Palace wants to play European football, wants to climb the Premier League table and reproduce the success again, it's just what you have to do. Everybody knows this in the building.
“Of course, it helps if players are in early when you start with pre-season because here you have time to train. We are quite passive. We are short of numbers, we have to add players, especially with quality.”
