Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are planning to sign Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman during this summer transfer window.
Arsenal circle back to long-time Atalanta target
Arsenal are back in the chase for Atalanta striker Ademola Lookman, as per journalist Kostas Lianos. The forward has made it clear he wants out of Bergamo this transfer window.
Head coach Mikel Arteta has admired the Nigeria international for over a year. Other targets like Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze are proving hard to land. Now, the Gunners could now push harder for Lookman.
According to outlets in Italy, has reportedly submitted a transfer request, which would put clubs on alert. Lookman’s stock has never been higher after a top season. He scored 20 goals and added seven assists in all competitions. Arsenal took notice long ago when he was at Everton and have followed his progress closely.
European clubs in the mix
Arsenal won’t have it all their own way in this chase. Inter Milan have already seen two bids knocked back. Their latest offer of around £40m just fell short of Atalanta’s £45m valuation. The Serie A club are refusing to sell to another Italian team. That gives the Gunners an edge. Napoli and Atletico Madrid are also monitoring the situation. They have both been impressed with the player’s pace and finishing ability.
Although, the interest from the Gunners is unlikely to before late in the window. It could ramp up in the coming days if talks for Eze go south.
The countdown on the transfer window is coming closer to it final days. The North London side’s next move is key. Whether they can push Atalanta to do business with them is another problem in itself. But, what is needed is a clear path for the move to happen. One thing is for sure, Lookman has the ability and desire to light up the PL.
