Two major Leeds United absentees for AC Milan clash, one could be leaving - Report

Leeds United face AC Milan in Dublin this afternoon in the final pre-season friendly of the summer, and Daniel Farke’s squad has some notable omissions.

United’s preparations for the season ahead come to a conclusion this weekend with a final test against Serie A giants AC Milan.

Daniel Farke’s lineup today in Dublin is likely to be a strong indication of who is going to start when Everton travel to Elland Road in just over a week’s time.

Jayden Bogle injury rules him out of AC Milan friendly, Daniel Farke not hugely worried

One almost guaranteed starter who definitely won’t be featuring today at the Aviva Stadium is right-back Jayden Bogle.

Absent from the 1-1 draw with Villarreal due to a hip flexor issue, the YEP’s Graham Smyth has revealed again that he’s still out injured.

No fresh update is available yet from Farke on Bogle’s fitness, but with comments expected post-match, Smyth’s recollection of the German’s demeanour indicates it’s not a nightmare injury scenario that awaits this evening:

Happy to wildly speculate that it's not going to be a worst case scenario. Not the vibe we've been getting. But let's see what Farke says.

Illan Meslier left out of Leeds United squad v AC Milan as well amid doubts over future

Another player missing from the squad is goalkeeper Illan Meslier, mysteriously absent while new starting ‘keeper Lucas Perri travels after seemingly shaking off an injury sustained when he was at Lyon in July.

Meslier’s future obviously remains in doubt after seeing his starting spot ripped from him by Karl Darlow back in April, now with a hefty investment made to improve the position via Perri.

No reason is given for Meslier being out of the squad, but the writing appears on the wall for the Frenchman after developments in the past few months.

Meslier’s contract is up in 11 months’ time, meaning even a loan would effectively end his time at the club, but he does represent a solid opportunity for Leeds to boost their PSR headroom via a permanent sale.

It had previously been reported that Meslier was subject to interest from unnamed clubs, and him being held back from this friendly may be an indication of the club nudging him towards the exit door.

Jayden Bogle hope could be restored at Leeds United this evening

Bogle was arguably Leeds’ best and most important player last season purely for how he helped revolutionise the side with his arrival at right-back.

So, a long-term setback for him would be a massive blow for us going into a Premier League survival bid, and hopefully it’s not much to worry about.

We’re in no-risk territory with any players carrying issues in the squad right now, and if Bogle is not fully recovered, there’s no point risking him ahead of Everton.
