'Upgrade on everything': Troy Deeney believes 'wonderful' Man City star is better than every…

The past week has been a tough one for everyone associated with Tottenham Hotspur.

The North London club will be without James Maddison for several months after the midfielder suffered an ACL injury, Spurs saw club legend Son Heung-min depart, and Thomas Frank’s team were hammered 4-0 by Bayern Munich on Thursday.

There is a lot of work to do before Tottenham’s season kicks off against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, while Frank will also be eager to bring new faces through the door before the summer transfer window shuts.

Troy Deeney has been speaking recently about the current situation in North London, and the pundit thinks Spurs should move for a Man City star, who he believes is better than every option in Frank’s current squad.

Troy Deeney wants to see Jack Grealish at Tottenham

Robert Earnshaw stated this week that Jack Grealish would be perfect for Tottenham following the Maddison news, and that is a statement Deeney agrees with.

Speaking on talkSPORT about Tottenham, the former Watford star stated that Spurs would be the perfect landing spot for Grealish and that it is daft that the London club are not considering a move for the Man City star.

“They have to look at that 10. I still think it’s a perfect landing spot for Jack Grealish. Personally, I think it’s a wonderful landing spot,” Deeney said.

“I think that’s more of a Spurs thing [after being told Tottenham have played down links to Grealish]. But you’re talking about someone who’s been, for whatever people want to talk about Jack.

“He’s been at City. He’s used to winning. He knows the level, knows the standard, and he’s an upgrade on everything that they’ve got there. So for me, the fact that they’re playing it down to me is daft.”

Tottenham will have competition if they change their mind on the winger, as Everton are also keen on Grealish and have already held discussions to see if a deal can be done.

However, with the Champions League football to offer the 29-year-old, that would make the decision easy for the England star.

How Jack Grealish compares to James Maddison

Grealish and Maddison are two different players with the Tottenham star being a classic number ten, while the Man City ace can play in the role, but has the traits of a winger.

That versatility may be an attraction for Spurs if they decide to make a move for the 29-year-old before the transfer window shuts, as the Englishman could fill the gaps left by both Maddison and Son Heung-min.

A loan deal for Grealish will be complicated to get done due to the £300k-a-week salary the winger earns at the Etihad Stadium, and it is not certain if the player is willing to take a pay cut for the 25/26 season.

Signing the Man City star permanently is a big risk; therefore, this scenario would be perfect for Tottenham given their situation, should the 29-year-old be willing to earn less in North London.
