It’s a chance for the Eagles to put a market down ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign for the 2025/26 season. Crystal Palace begin their league efforts against Chelsea next weekend, handed an away fixture at Stamford Bridge to begin.

Crystal Palace take on Liverpool at Wembley Stadium

Liverpool and Crystal Palace have had two very different summers when it comes to transfers. The Champions have been free spending in the window as Arne Slot looks to defend his Premier League title.

The Merseyside outfit splurged £100 million on Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz and have also spent significant outlays on Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike, AFC Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez and Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong. There is talk that a British record fee for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak could be on its way too.

At Selhurst Park, the club has been more concentrated on holding onto key first team players such as Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi than on recruitment. A small fee was spent on bringing Borna Sosa to the club from Ajax with goalkeeper Walter Benitez arriving from PSV Eindhoven on a free transfer.

FA Community Shield prize money explained

The prize money from the FA Community Shield is not as significant as the Premier League or FA Cup but is still a handy little cash injection for clubs walking the tightrope of financial regulations. Either Crystal Palace or Liverpool will pocket that money this season.

The exact sum of the FA Community Shield prize money is not known but The Express reported that in 2019 a pot of £1.25 million was split between the two teams. The majority of that is funded by the sponsor.

Profits raised from ticket sales and match programmes do not go to the competing clubs and are sent down the footballing pyramid and to charities. The FA states: “The FA Community Shield raises hundreds of thousands of pounds every year, distributed to community-based initiatives and charities up and down the country. The funds are raised through a combination of tickets sales and match programmes.”
