Newcastle tell Isak he can’t join Liverpool this summer

Newcastle United have informed Alexander Isak he won’t be sold this summer and a potential move to Liverpool will be blocked, according to a report.

Luke Edwards reports for The Telegraph that Newcastle United’s owners have put their foot down and insisted Alexander Isak won’t be joining Liverpool this summer.

Edwards adds that Liverpool were made aware of Newcastle’s refusal to consider a sale when they made their £110m bid last week, which is why they subsequently indicated they won’t bid again until that stance changes.

Sources have reportedly told The Telegraph that it’s extremely unlikely Newcastle change their stance even if they sign another striker this month. The decision to keep Isak has universal backing at boardroom level.

Isak is unhappy with Newcastle’s stance on a potential sale, refusing to accept the decision, which is why he’s currently training away from the main group.

The club haven’t otherwise disciplined the striker so far, as they intend to reintegrate him into the squad once it becomes clear to him that he can’t leave.

Newcastle have also fallen out with Isak’s representatives, and they’re angry with Liverpool’s behaviour with what they consider to be a lowball offer. Newcastle’s valuation of Isak is £150m, and after Liverpool indicated they’d be willing to do business at £120m, they then bid £110m.

Arsenal reportedly had Isak as their dream target for the summer window, but the Gunners decided to move on to other options amid claims that Isak wasn’t for sale.

The validity of those reports has certainly been tested in recent weeks, and perhaps there have been times when Arsenal might have felt they gave up on the transfer too soon. Especially if Premier League rivals Liverpool end up doing a deal.

But with just over three weeks of the summer transfer window remaining, these latest reports suggest the Gunners may have been better off moving on.

It’s worth noting that Arsenal face Liverpool at Anfield on August 31st, so even if the situation changes and Arne Slot eventually gets his man, Gunners fans will hope it isn’t until after that game.
