LATROBE, Pa. --Roc Taylor came into Pittsburgh Steelers training camp with hopes of making the 53-man roster, and he has made some strides in achieving that goal.
During the third week of training camp, Taylor continued to flash, making plays on balls downfield, namely as a back shoulder specialist. Taylor says that play is something that comes naturally to him.
For him on the field, Taylor says things are slowing down and coming to him easily, making his big play ability down the sideline pop.
“Things are slowing down, for sure,” Taylor said. “Just trying to pick up the offense and learn the splits and terminology that they use. So it’s starting to slow down for me a lot.”
Taylor made three separate catches on dig routes over the middle of the field throughout Thursday’s practice. He weaved through traffic on one play and made a great hands catch on a pass thrown high and outside of his frame.
In the two-minute drill, he made another twisting back shoulder grab with a defensive draped all over him.
“Just mainly stay on the first route,” Taylor said about his backshoulder route success. “Can’t never look back too early, give your route up. Just run straight and last-minute, adjust to it.”
A big-bodied wide receiver, Taylor looks like the type of player who could make some real noise with more opportunities. He has a chance to do that on Saturday against the Jaguars.
