Tottenham Hotspur will be without James Maddison for the majority of the season and are on the market for a replacement
Tottenham Hotspur have no more friendly games left on their pre-season schedule after ending their preparations with a 4-0 defeat at Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on Thursday night.
Spurs head to Italy next week to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup final at the Stadio Friuli in Udine. Tottenham beat Manchester United in the Europa League final to qualify for the game while PSG battered Inter Milan 5-0 to win the Champions League for the first time in their history to earn their spot.
The former Leicester City man has ruptured his ACL and requires surgery that will rule him out for the majority of the season. And Frank is said to have held direct talks with one potential replacement.
Thomas Frank holds ‘direct talks’ with Harvey Elliott
One player on Spurs’ radar is Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott. The Reds player was an effective impact substitute for Arne Slot last term but with the Anfield club signing the likes of Florian Wirtz, the midfielder’s role at Anfield could be further diminished.
Football Transfers reports Spurs are ‘making significant progress’ in their pursuit of Elliott with Frank speaking directly to the player to pitch his vision to the England Under-21 international.
RB Leipzig are also interested in Elliott and have reportedly held talks with the player this week, who appears keen to secure his next club before the competitive campaign gets underway. Spurs can offer Elliott Champions League football while Leipzig missed out on the competition.
The Premier League is also familiar to Elliott, and a switch to North London would be a less significant change in terms of location compared to Leipzig.
What Harvey Elliott has said on Liverpool future amid Tottenham interest
“I love everything about the club, but at the same time I kind of need to be selfish and see what's best for me. I have big ambitions. I want to get in the World Cup squad.
“I want to keep being successful as a player. It's something I still need to review. I need to have a talk with everyone and review the situation. we have many new players who have come in so whether it blocks the path for me I'm not sure. It's something I need to have a look at and decide.”
