Benjamin Sesko has sent a heartfelt message to RB Leipzig after his blockbuster move to Manchester United was confirmed. The 22-year-old emerged as United's top No.9 target over the last fortnight and his £66.4million plus £7.3m add-ons move was announced on Saturday morning.
Sesko scored 39 goals and provided eight assists in 87 matches for Leipzig following his move from Red Bull Salzburg in July 2023. Newcastle were among the others who wanted to sign the Slovenia international, but he chose Old Trafford as his preferred destination and the deal is now complete.
While Sesko has expressed his delight to have signed for Ruben Amorim's side, he also admitted he is "forever grateful" to Leipzig in a graceful statement on Instagram.
"Thank you, RB Leipzig. I arrived as a kid, and I leave with beautiful memories of this club forever," Sesko wrote. "From day one, you welcomed me like family. I’ve grown, learned, and lived unforgettable moments here."To the fans, your love and support have meant more than words can say. This club will always hold a special place in my heart. Forever grateful," he added alongside a red love heart emoji.
Sesko has signed a five-year contract at United and becomes the club's fourth summer signing after Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon arrived earlier in the transfer window.
United's summer spending has now exceeded the £200m mark as Amorim tries to get his squad in the best possible shape for the new Premier League season. Sesko could make his Reds bow against Arsenal next Sunday.
In another Instagram post, focusing on his move to United, Sesko admitted he dreamt of signing for the Reds.
Sesko wrote: "When you're young, you dream big. You imagine moments, stadiums, and shirts you hope will one day be yours. Today, I'm stepping into that dream. Proud to be a Red Devil. Let's go, Manchester United!"
The former FC Liefering loanee added more about his switch to United on the club's website. There, he outlined what is so special about the Reds and admitted it was the project that convinced him to move.
"The history of Manchester United is obviously very special but what really excites me is the future," Sesko revealed. "When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.
"From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created. It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions.
"I cannot wait to start learning from Ruben [Amorim] and connecting with my team-mates to achieve the success that we all know we are capable of together."
