Alexander Isak is reportedly seething after Newcastle United made it crystal clear that he's not for sale this summer, dashing his dreams of a switch to Liverpool.

The Telegraph reports that the Swedish striker didn't take the news well and will continue training separately from the first team.

The Magpies have told Isak that until he comes to terms with the fact that he won't be getting his desired move, he'll remain on the sidelines, having already been excluded from their pre-season matches.

Eddie Howe, acting as the club's mouthpiece, had previously hinted at the possibility of Isak leaving after three years at the club. However, the Saudi Arabian owners have now drawn a line in the sand, refusing to entertain any offers.

Liverpool were given the cold shoulder when their whopping £110m bid was knocked back last week, leading them to step away from further talks. The Reds have confirmed they won't increase their offer unless the powers-that-be at St James' Park change their tune.

It's understood that even if Newcastle bring in a new forward, they won't backtrack on their firm stance regarding Isak's future. Howe, fully aware of the top brass's position, has been left to smooth over the situation with the disgruntled player, reports the Mirror.

Newcastle's choice not to formally discipline the player has been a deliberate move. Isak didn't join their pre-season tour of Asia but was later spotted training at his old club, Real Sociedad.

The Magpies are mindful that a gentle approach will make it easier to bring him back into the fold.

Newcastle reckon the 25-year-old will have to come to terms with the fact that he can't just force his way out of the club.

Howe, however, confessed that while he'd love to have Isak back in the squad, his current behaviour means he can't be included - and he's doubtful he'll feature in next weekend's Premier League opener.

Howe stated: "We've had discussions and it's clear at the moment that we can't involve him with the group. I don't know how long that will be for, but that's the latest.

"I'd want Alex to be playing today, I'd want him training tomorrow. We would love the player to be with us.

"Let me make that absolutely clear. There's no part of me that doesn't want that outcome, but I don't see the current situation changing for Aston Villa."
