‘They just have to ask’: Leeds United hero says he’s open to a job at Elland Road

Leeds United and Daniel Farke are formulating a plan to stay in the Premier League, and one former player could help towards that.

With Farke and the 49ers doing the business they can for this summer to stay in the top flight, the Whites will hope to uncover some gems.

The option to go back in for former players would be a risk, especially with Kalvin Phillips being an option for Leeds.

It seems like the owners want more obscure players rather than going for known faces, as stars for the future will also need to be considered.

Well, a Leeds hero is offering his services as he believes Farke is missing out.

Leeds United hero Gary Kelly would become a scout for Irish players

Gary Kelly is no doubt a Leeds legend, as after 531 appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit, he’s now looking for a return.

The Irishman prided himself on his passion and leadership from right-back, and speaking to The Irish News, he feels he can offer some more expertise.

“Leeds have a good Academy up there, but I think the one thing that has gone is the connection between Leeds United and Ireland,” Kelly said ahead of the Whites’ meeting with AC Milan in Dublin.

“Now there’s no-one sending them over, and I think Arsenal are getting them all.

“You don’t hear about Irish lads going to Leeds anymore, so they want to get that scouting system up and going again.”

“If Leeds United want me to be a scout for Ireland, there’s no problem – they just have to ask.”

Kelly raises a good point, as the Whites currently don’t have any emerging prospects from Ireland, as the likes of Robbie Keane, Johnny Giles, and Ian Harte will no doubt want to see their nation’s talent shown.

With this considered, the 51-year-old could prove to be a good appointment with his knowledge of Irish Football.

Gary Kelly could repeat Tottenham signing at Leeds United

It’s certainly an area that needs to be explored as Irish football is growing.

A recent example of an emerging gem from Ireland who will soon play in the Premier League is Tottenham’s soon-to-be striker Mason Melia, who, at just 17, is looking like a very exciting talent.

By giving Kelly a role in Leeds’ scouting department, the former Whites defender can provide his expertise and potentially find another Melia, who has flourished with St. Patricks as a teenager.

Kelly wanted Leeds to sign Kelleher as he has a passion for Irish stars succeeding in the English top flight.

The Peacocks have found that the country has been kind to them in the past, and their former captain could bring the luck of the Irish.
