Panthers cut ties with former Steelers, Penn State wide receiver

The Carolina Panthers have released former Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State wide receiver Dan Chisena, the team announced.

Chisena had been with the team for the spring, but will now look to find a new place after being released. Known for his special teams prowess, Chisena has hopped around the NFL.

Chisena signed with the Panthers practice squad in October and even got to play in six games for the team, making three catches for 37 yards in addition to his special teams work.

A special teams standout, Chisena went undrafted after coming out of Penn State in the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent most of his time with the Minnesota Vikings from 2020 to 2022 but joined the Steelers for training camp in 2023, but failed to make the team.

Over the last year, he has had stints with the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, and now the Panthers. In his NFL career, he has 13 total tackles and one fumble recovery.

While at Penn State, Chisena joined both the football and track teams. At Penn State pro day, he ran a 4.3 40-yard dash, which put him on the radars of some NFL scouts despite only playing in limited action on offense.

He caught just three passes for 58 yards in his senior season with the Nittany Lions, yet has stayed in the NFL to this point with his excellent speed and special teams ability.
