Report: Leeds snubbed by striker likened to Edin Dzeko despite reaching agreement with his club

Leeds United have reportedly reached agreement with a Serie A club over their striker, but they have failed to convince him to join the club as things stand.

Leeds are still looking for a new attacker to lead their line in the Premier League this season, having failed to convince Igor Paixao to join.

With Patrick Bamford not included in Daniel Farke’s plans for the new season, Leeds remain in pursuit of attacking reinforcements.

Leeds appear to have got halfway there with regards to one of the strikers on their radar, but the player himself does not seem convinced as things stand.

Andrea Pinamonti not convinced by Leeds United move

Leeds set their sights on Sassuolo striker Andrea Pinamonti and have even reached agreement with his club, according to Alfredo Pedulla.

However, the report claims Pinamonti has said no to Leeds, echoing Nikola Krstovic’s rejection of the Elland Road outfit.

Leeds are now at risk of losing out on the 26-year-old Italy international to Atalanta, who are making enquiries about the player.

However, the outlet says Pinamonti’s future ‘remains unwritten’, so Leeds could still have the opportunity to make another attempt to turn his head.

What Andrea Pinamonti could bring to Leeds

Pinamonti has caught the eye after registering 11 goals and one assist from 37 games on loan at Genoa last season.

Genoa had an option to buy Pinamonti outright but they did not take it up, so he has returned to Sassuolo.

Pinamonti has made a name for himself as a strong, two-footed striker who excels in terms of his hold-up play, powerful and accurate shots, and intelligent movement in the box.

In addition, Pinamonti has been compared to former Manchester City forward Edin Dzeko, and he has welcomed the comparisons.

“Ibrahimovic and Icardi have always been my idols, but in general I always try to learn from the greatest strikers,” he told Corriere Fiorentino, via SempreInter, in 2022. “Being compared with Dzeko is an honour to me.”
