Newcastle United set sights on 26-year-old Tottenham target

Tottenham-linked Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani is eyed by Newcastle United as potential Alexander Isak replacement

Tottenham Hotspur have welcomed Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus as their only attacking reinforcement so far this summer, but are expected to make further moves before the September 1 transfer deadline.

This is because the Lilywhites have lost their iconic forward Son Heung-min to MLS club Los Angeles FC. After 10 long years, Son has decided to end his chapter at White Hart Lane and embark on a new adventure in the MLS, and given his reliability and consistency in terms of productivity in the Premier League, the club must replace the South Korean star in Thomas Frank’s squad.

To make matters difficult for Thomas Frank ahead of his first season in north London, James Maddison has been ruled out for the majority of the upcoming campaign following an ACL rupture. The creative midfielder sustained a serious knee injury in the 1-1 friendly draw with Newcastle United in Seoul last week. Additionally, with Dominic Solanke currently nursing a minor ankle injury, Spurs are in desperate need of firepower.

Tottenham have been linked with several forwards in recent months. Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani is one of those.

After missing out on his services back in January, Spurs have revived their interest in Randal Kolo Muani. Despite arriving in a €95m deal from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2023, the Frenchman has no future in the French capital. He spent the latter half of the 2024/25 campaign in Italy with Juventus, where he rediscovered his goalscoring form after a disappointing season and a half with PSG.

However, Tottenham are not the only Premier League club interested in the player. According to a report from TBR Football, Newcastle United have held talks with Kolo Muani’s agents, along with PSG officials, over a possible move to St James’ Park.

As Juventus have been unable to agree on terms with PSG, the Magpies are now looking to swoop in for the France international after recently missing out on RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United. Alexander Isak, their most valuable asset, has been pushing for a move to Liverpool in recent weeks, but before bringing in a potential replacement, Newcastle have not allowed him to leave.

As such, Kolo Muani has been identified as a potential replacement for Isak by Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, who has endured a difficult summer transfer with several targets rejecting proposals to move to Tyneside for bigger clubs.

Tottenham have their own exciting project in place, spearheaded by Frank, and as the Danish tactician is in desperate need for attacking reinforcements, Daniel Levy and Johan Lange must try their best to bring Kolo Muani to N17. It must not be forgotten that Levy and Lange had flown out to Paris in January to negotiate a deal with PSG for the 26-year-old, although the player opted to move to Juventus instead on loan.

As Juventus have not been able to agree terms, and Newcastle only holding talks over a possible deal, Spurs must accelerate their pursuit of Kolo Muani as he possesses the qualities to thrive in Frank’s system and solve the team’s woes up front.
