Everton want to sign Tyrese Campbell, son of former Blues legend Kevin Campbell, this summer.

It almost seems like a full-circle moment that the Toffees have taken an interest in Campbell after the passing of ‘Super Kev’ in June 2024.

The late striker made history at the Merseyside club, becoming their first black captain and keeping the Blues in the top flight. Campbell always had a strong passion for the game, and his son seems to have followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming a well-known centre-forward in the professional game.

But who is Tyrese, and how could he fit into this Everton side? Follow as Goodison News provides an overview of his career thus far.

Campbell’s club career

Campbell began his career playing for Manchester City’s Academy, but turned down the offer to turn professional with the club during the summer of 2016.

Instead, he opted to sign a contract with Stoke City, where he shone with their Under-18s, helping them to reach the 2016/17 FA Youth Cup semi-final.

24 February 2018: The striker makes his professional debut in a 1-1 draw at Leicester City in the Premier League

15 January 2019: Campbell earns his first start for Stoke in an FA Cup match against Shrewsbury Town. Despite scoring twice, it ended in a 3-2 defeat

31 January 2019: He is loaned to Shrewsbury for the remainder of the EFL League One season

While Campbell signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Stoke on 24 January 2020, it only went downhill from there. A knee injury in December 2020 ended an excellent start to the season, and the striker failed to regain his best form upon his return the following year.

Following the end of the 2023/24 campaign, Stoke announced that his contract would not be renewed.

As such, he joined Sheffield United, where he ended up scoring in the Championship play-off final against Sunderland. However, the Black Cats came back to win 2-1 at Wembley.

Everton’s interest: How could Campbell improve the Toffees?

As reported by Danny Hall via X on Saturday (9 August), Everton are keeping a close eye on Campbell amid long-standing interest.

The prolific striker could be an asset for the Toffees’ imminent Premier League campaign. Not only does he have experience in the top-flight, but the Merseyside club would be signing him during his prime.

Campbell offers an immense counter-attacking threat and loves to outpace defenders. As such, he could form a strong partnership with Ilman Ndiaye, who will no doubt offer passes for him to latch onto.

Campbell last season

The dynamic centre-forward netted 11 goals in 27 appearances for Sheffield United last season and has scored 66 goals as a striker. Not only does he have a keen eye for goal, but he has also had spells on either wing – this versatility would be a huge boost for David Moyes when deciding tactics.

However, it is understood that Campbell currently has his heart set on the Blades, to whom he feels he owes a debt of gratitude. Therefore, Everton may need to go back to the drawing board for this one.
