With the start of the Ligue 1 season fast-approaching, OGC Nice are looking to quickly find a replacement for Evann Guessand. The academy product left Le Gym earlier this week to join Aston Villa in a €35m deal.

Gaëtan Laborde has also left Nice this summer, whilst Victor Orakpo has left on loan, leaving Franck Haise short of attacking options. Terem Moffi is currently the only recognised No.9 in the squad. AJ Auxerre’s Lassine Sinayoko has been linked with replacing Guessand, however, their attention has seemingly shifted to another target.

As per a report from L’Équipe, Nice have reignited their long-standing interest in Chelsea’s David Datro Fofana (22). Chelsea are open to selling the forward, however, they want a permanent deal. Le Gym’s initial idea was to loan the player, with a purchase option, whilst also paying a percentage of his wage.

Toulouse also in race to sign Fofana

There is also interest from Ligue 1 rivals Toulouse FC, who are desperate for attacking reinforcements. Le TéFéCé were prepared to pay the desired fee between €4-5m, however, they can not satisfy Fofana’s salary demands.
